List of Controversial Essay Topics
List of Controversial Essay TopicsThe topic of a student's essay is very important and it can be an interesting one if the right research has been done beforehand. There are two types of topics: those that deal with issues that are controversial, and those that are either controversial or socially accepted. In these cases the best strategies for essay topics include the use of background facts that help to support the argument. Using a graph or table will prove very useful in giving examples and supporting the points being made. People tend to remember those facts that they find most memorable. When you write your own essay, you should try to find out where people disagree with you, and how they got there. If you focus on discovering your audience's views on the issue and then write about how you think their position is the right one, then you will learn the truth from people who disagree with you.The students who write about controversial topics are usually highly intelligent and ofte n have an overwhelming passion for the topic. This may help if they have chosen the topic of the essay wisely. One way to ensure this is to ask your friends and family members, or for that matter, look up opinions online. If you think a topic is controversial, a good idea is to talk to some people who have different opinions on the topic and get their views on the topic. Sometimes if the topic is controversial, people who have no strong views on the topic tend to spread the opinions of others, thereby giving you a better perspective on the topic. If you don't know which audience you are addressing, then you need to find out. Start by narrowing down your topic and reading opinions about the topic from people who have no strong opinion, and who you believe may have an opinion that you don't agree with.Once you have the basis of the audience for your essay, then you will know what questions to ask your audience, as well as how to structure your essay. By following the above techniques, i t is easy to get good grades in the subjects that are particularly challenging.

It is also about having an understanding of the information obtained and having the ability to pass the information on to others. Following his time after graduation, MacArthur was commissioned as a junior officer in the Army Corps of Engineers and spent the next decade fulfilling a variety of duties. This early period in his military career was marked by frequent promotions and led to posts in countries around the world, including the Philippines, Japan, Mexico and, in 1914, France. In 1918 he participated in the St. Mihiel, Meuse-Argonne and Sedan offensives, during which he repeatedly distinguished himself as a capable military leader. Upon returning from Europe, MacArthur became the superintendent of West Point, a post he held for the next three years. During this time he was promoted to brigadier general of the Army. In 1930, MacArthur was promoted to general and selected as the Army chief of staff. Over the next few years his efforts were primarily devoted to maintaining a military that, like the rest of the country, wa s crippled by the Great Depression. He also spoke frequently of what he considered to be the increasingly serious threat of Communism, both in the United States and abroad. In 1935, President Franklin D. Roosevelt chose MacArthur as his military adviser to the Philippines and sent him there to establish a defensive military force. In July 1941, MacArthur was recalled to active duty and became commander of U.S. forces in the Pacific. Time Series Theory and Methods
Question: Discuss about the Time Series for Theory and Methods. Answer: Introduction: Trade off is the concept, which depicts that loses of an aspect of something in return for gaining another aspect. As all the factors cannot be attained at a same time, one has to give a product or service in order to gain another product. Traffic congestion is a major problem in Australia. Therefore, working people suffers from increasing vehicle queue. It can be assumed that there may be short and long rout to reach a destination. Probability of traffic congestion is greater at the shorter route. Hence, in order to avoid the traffic congestion, people can take alternative routes, which takes longer time. Therefore, people needs to trade off between routes with and without congestion (Anderson 2014, p. 2764). Opportunity cost: Opportunity cost is the concepts used in economic analysis, which says that a person has to give one opportunity to avail another one. Development of proper infrastructure can reduce the road congestion. However, construction of road incurs huge cost. Road congestion has also costs in terms of reduction in working hour, lengthy travel time, efficiency loss in production (Tsekeris and Geroliminis 2013, p. 5). Therefore, government has either to build infrastructure or to deal with traffic congestion. Marginal decision making: As discussed by Mahmud, Gope and Chowdhury (2012, p. 112), marginal decision making is the process through which a person chooses the best alternative that gives maximum benefits. Marginal benefit is greater when opportunity cost is low. People choose different options such as alternative roads, trade off between private and public transport based on their cost benefit analysis. Explanation of the cartoon The cartoon shows that a person is sitting under the sun and reading newspaper. Moreover, he is an aged person. As per invisible hand theory of Adam Smith, price and quantity is determined in the market through bargain between seller and buyer. The objective of the person was to get rid off from the temperature. Everyone chooses their buying and selling decision based on marginal utility. Utility of the seller maximises by increasing revenues (Tirachini, Hensher and Rose 2014, p. 41). As seen from the picture that the person buys the umbrella from the seller instead of cold drinks. Both of them maximises their utility. The seller is willing to give umbrella as this decision has less opportunity cost as he has hat to be protected from sun. On the other hand, the person sitting on the bench is benefitted by receiving the umbrella. Therefore, both can maximise their utility from this transaction as demand and supply meet each other. Explicit and implicit opportunity costs to motorists of road usage As mentioned by Fosgerau and De Palma (2013, p. 110), implicit opportunity cost is the lost of opportunity in the use of own resources of a firm or individual. This cost is important while making decision about the alternative opportunity. Implicit costs are intangibles. On the other hand explicit cost is the accounting cost of losing an opportunity. Costs that can be computed in terms of cost of resources are explicit cost (Pierce and Shoup 2013, p. 77). There is an economic cost or opportunity cost of traveling on the road. People can devote that hours in any productive usage that generates income. People can trade off that time with consumption of leisure as leisure has also utility. Safety is another implicit cost associated with the road usage by motorists. Motorists take risk of property damage, injuries and risk of death due to crashes. People trade off these risks with the income earned. Explicit cost of motorists is user cost. Toll taxes and other legal costs, license fees are explicit cost. Traffic congestion on road reduces the speed of motor vehicle and causing air pollution. Moreover, fuel cost increases with the congestion. Cost of travelling delays are the un-priced monetary externalities caused by congestion. Road pricing in Melbourne according to the time based charge or the distance of travel is the explicit cost for the motorists. In the view of Miller (2016), every one in five cars in Melbourne causes unnecessary congestion on road as their travels are not related to work or study. Therefore, road pricing at peak hour can reduce traffic jam effectively. Three approaches to improve road congestion Three approaches are described here for the reduction of traffic congestion in cities. Transportation network has been suffered from traffic congestion due to absence of capacity, supply side constraint and lack of investment in infrastructure development (Bigazzi and Figliozzi 2013, p.19). Three approaches have been adopted in Chicago to reduce congestion on road. The first one is building additional capacities in the important areas of the city. he second one is better management of existing network through intelligence transport technologies, improved signal coordination, traffic control and congestion pricing. Increasing transit into the regional roadway network planning and programming is another approach of reducing traffic congestion in roads (Staley 2012). Trends of the time series From an analysis of Figure 1 we find that there is a steady increase in the total distance travelled (billion km) by a metropolitan vehicle from 1990 to 2030. We also find that there is a constant increase in the avoidable congestion cost ($b) during the same period. In addition, we also find that the air pollution by metropolitan vehicles due to the road travel initially increases from 1990 to 1999, post 1999 the air pollution steadily decreases. The time series takes into account the forecast for the years 2017 to 2030. Relationship between the time-series over the period The analysis of the time series shows that there is a positive relationship between the distance travelled by a metropolitan vehicle and avoidable congestion cost during the period 1990 to 2030 (including the forecasted period). From the analysis, we find that from the period 1990 to 1999 as the distance travelled by metropolitan vehicles increase the air pollution also positively increases. This can be attributed to older vehicles and their technology. From 1999 to the present 2017 and again for a forecast period of 2017 to 2030, the air pollution decreases as the distance (in billion km) travelled by metropolitan vehicles increases. This decrease in air pollution can be attributed to newer vehicles and may be due to better technology of the vehicles (Brockwell and Davis 2013, p. 304). Inefficiency of public road use during peak travel times In the absence of any road pricing, travel on highways are free. There flow of traffic increases in the cities even in the peak hours. People use private cars for personal recreation, which has negative externalities in term of pollution, congestion, loss of production. Bigazzi and Figliozzi (2013, p. 23) stated that roads are scare factor in the economy as land is naturally fixed. Sellers often increases price in order to meet the demand with the supply so that some consumers are excluded from the market. During peak hour, road congestion increases marginal social cost over the marginal social benefits. Opportunity of road congestion is higher. If government imposes equal tariff during high and low demand times, inefficiency is created in the market. Traffic volume will inefficiently low during low demand periods. People travelling during off peak period will be worse off and marginal social benefits will be reduced creating market failure (Pierce and Shoup 2013, p. 70). Moreover, congestion during peak period is less likely to reduce as there as people are equally worse off during both periods. They may continue to travel during peak periods. As figure 2 shows that the effect of road pricing is higher while it is implemented in an aggregate way. There is a negative relationship between the traffic volume and traffic pricing. With the increase in road price, traffic volume on road reduces. Pricing is effective when there is huge demand in the market as well as shortage. Demand for road is greater from the office goer and the students during the peak hours. Therefore, willingness to pay price is greater during this period. On the other hand, as the flow of traffic is less during off peak hours, charging pricing creates inefficiency. The marginal social cost is flat till a certain level as prices are relatively constant during the level of demand. During peak hours, free flow of traffic increases. As there is shortage of road supply or poor signalling system, congestion is created (Anderson 2014, p. 2788). Therefore, equal tariff for all the periods fails to reduce traffic volume during peak hours. Efficiency can be increased by equating marginal social benefits with marginal social costs. Price discrimination for peak period and off-peak period is effective decision. Higher price during congestion period efficiently reduces the magnitude of congestion (Fosgerau and De Palma 2013, p. 111). Toll price t* per unit increases user cost, equating to the marginal social cost. Therefore, traffic volume decreases by bringing efficiency in the economy. Producer surplus is the region below the price line and above the supply curve. Here marginal social cost curve is the supply curve of traffic. Consumer surplus is the region below the demand curve and the above the price line. The shaded region in figure 3 is the consumer surplus. P*CB is the producer surplus in the market. With the tariff t per unit, no deadweight loss is created in the market. Imposition of road pricing hikes the user cost up to the MSC and market demand meets the market supply. At the equilibrium level, where, P= MSC= user cost, no deadweight loss is created as utility is maximised at this point for the given infrastructure (Brockwell and Davis 2013, p. 250). Hence, inefficiency is removed that has been shown in the earlier diagram. References Anderson, M.L., 2014. Mr Essays - Personality Traits, Personality,
It is hard to determine if personality changes across our lifespan through verbal actions and cognitive recalling. Debates and studies came by to prove their stands on the subject, in which experiments and analysis of personality changes are tested across various stages of the life cycle. Most notably, longitudinal researches on young adulthood are being compared to those in adulthood and old age to affirm that personality stability is unstable initially before fixing itself in the advancing years. As mentioned previously, personality usually changes in young adulthood due to encounters that exposed people to new happenings in life such as attending school and working in a new environment. (Arnett, 2000; Erikson, 1963; Helson, 1983; White 1996). Costa Fraley, R. C.; Roberts, B. W.; Trzesniewski, K. H., 2001). Four types of personality stability and changes are used for studies to determine personality stability for young adults. It is mainly Normative Change; Rank-order Stability; Structural Stability and Ipsative Stability (eg. Blocks Caspi Mortimer, J. T., Finch, M.D., Kumka, D. S. 1982). Under Normative Changes, several studies followed closely on personality changes from adolescence through young adulthood. Majority of the studies focused mainly on Openness to Experience, one of the dimensions of the Big Five. Stewart (1964) conducted a four year longitudinal study of Berkeley students and discovered a decrease in absolutism likewise a raise in expectation and creativity. Sanford (1956) found that Vassar College students became less cautious and more open-minded. Thus many traits related to Openness of Experience surges during young adulthood (Robin et al, 2001). Looking at the next component of the Big Five, Conscientiousness, Haan. N., Millsap, R. & Hartka, E. (1986) found an increase in loyalty in both sexes age 17 to 30 years old. Helson & Moane (1987) revealed a rise in abstinence in young adulthood. Mixed longitudinal studies in young adulthood were conducted to find out the degree of Extraversion in them. Stewart (1964) observed an increase in supremacy and extraversion in a group of students. Correspondingly, Carmichael & McGue (1994) learned a rise in extraversion in a study of twins from ages 16 to 35. However, the most constant verdict will be the unchanged positive emotions during college years. Nichols (1967) found no change in amiability and Haan et al (1986) noted no changes in determination in young adulthood. From the above examples, longitudinal research to date shows that Extraversion remains relatively unchanged in young adulthood (Robin et al, 2001). In contrast, studies of Neuroticism yielded results that show either no change in the trait or a decrease in it. Nichols (1967) could not find any changes in the level of distress. No changes were observed for happiness (Roberts Viken et al, 1994). Other studies showed that conversion of adolescence to young adulthood is distinguished by the increment in self-acceptance (Stein et al, 1986) and sensitivity towards others (Carmichael Watson & Walker, 1996). Despite of the mixture of consequences, there are great amount of evidence which backs the hypothesis that neuroticism decreases in college goers (Robin et al, 2001). A few studies were done in relation to Agreeableness. Haan et al (1986) reported different alteration sequence for men and women in early adulthood. Men tend to experience lowering of affection while women will show more hospitality towards others. In another study conducted by McGue et al (1993), there was a drop in hostility from adults of age 20 to 30 years. The amount of longitudinal evidence suggests an increase in Agreeableness in young adults. Agreeing with that point, cross-sectional research shows that college students are likely to have reduced Agreeableness than older adults (e.g., Costa & McCrae, 1994b). As a whole, previous research on personality change during young adulthood supports the hypothesis that Openness to Experience,

Abusive Relationships Essay Example
Abusive Relationships Essay Example Abusive Relationships Essay Abusive Relationships Essay The scary thing about a controlling marriage is that a lot of the time, we dont even realize were in one. When youre in love with someone, its sort of Like putting on a pair of rose-colored glasses you see the happy things, the things you want to see. Its easy to Ignore the ugly things ? for example. That your spouse might be a little too controlling. You dont realize the full impact on how it degrades you and devalues your identity, until it has destroyed you enough to where you feel you cannot survive without the abuser. Research has shown that the majority of emotionally controlling individuals have also battled addictions currently or in their past. That Is consistent with the cycle of controlling nature. They cannot control their situations and be abusive so they turn to addictions to numb the need for control. The controller feels they can control their addictions too. As the relationship progresses, you find yourself altering your behavior to accommodate him, or to please him. Then, as it moves forward, more warning signs start to appear. Emotional abuse can take on many faces. It can begin with your partner becoming irritable at the smallest of action, and turning it into your fault. The key word here is fault?as In It Is always YOU that makes HIM direct the anger to you. When you try to understand this behavior and talk It out, he wants nothing to do with accepting any responsibility for the debate that ensues. The usual lines will be somewhat like this; Youre not happy with me are you, what is it I am doing to make you unhappy, why do you not like to be around me ; just to list a few. Do not answer these questions, walk away. They are usually questions asked to trigger you to respond by saying, l am happy dear That feed his controlling ego. Gradually, your communication will deteriorate because anything that you say will force an adult accusations, and blame anything but the true source, himself. Sometimes we arent able to realize the impact of this emotional abuse until we get an outside perspective, that is, when someone recognizes it, or when we leave it and look back. Dealing with a controlling spouse isnt easy and, unfortunately, it can turn into a mentally and physically abusive relationship way too easily. It may take a decade or two before physical abuse happens, but eventually if you try to stand up for yourself it will and always does lead to that. When a controlling individual feels they are about to lose what they abuse, they retaliate with anger and vengeful accusations in an attempt to make you feel that you are the problem. It is their only means of coping because they cannot truly accept responsibility for their behaviors. There are several signs listed below that indicate your husband is emotionally and mentally abusive and too controlling and if he is, get yourself out of there before its too late. If you can recognize most of them, and are experiencing at least three, you have a serious robber that requires professional help from a psychologist. However getting a controlling spouse to seek therapy and be able to accept he is the problem, then your best option is to leave the relationship, because if he cannot accept he is the problem, therapy will do no good. 1 . Are you frequently misunderstood, and your intentions looked on as if they were considered dishonorable or manipulative? Do you end up feeling perplexed and frustrated? 2. Do you feel as if there is something wrong with you, you feel bad and cant figure out why? 3. Does your husband almost always disagree with you, and the smallest of concussions evolve into a heated debate and you Just give up in frustration? 4. Do you feel obligated to give in Just to keep the peace in the relationship? Are you continually finding yourself fighting back what youd like to say, being afraid to have an opinion of your own? This will over time begin to cause you to lose your identity, your personal feeling of self-ownership. 5. Does he seem bothered when you do things without you and subtly show his discontent by repeatedly questioning what you did to try and trip you up to the point even you become confused with what you did, and get frustrated? This might be the biggest sign of a controlling husband that he doesnt want you to do anything when hes not involved. Just because youre married doesnt mean you guys cant do stuff on your own sometimes. Your husband shouldnt be getting suspicious of you for hanging with friends without him, going to party if hes not around or innocently talking to guys without him there. That is abusively controlling! If he cant let you have any time to yourself, thats a sign that he wants to be in control of what youre doing all the time. Its not fair, and is most likely because he has no true friends he an hang out with and do his own thing, because if he did, he would not be around to 6. Does he show signs of always needing to see your stuff and dig through things to get a sense of what you might be doing that he doesnt know about? Does he try to see your text messages? Does he try to look at your Faceable and see what male friends might like your comments or postings? Its a sign that he doesnt trust you and its also a way for him to check up on you basically to make sure youre not doing anything he doesnt approve of. Your personal stuff is private and not for your husbands right to go through. Dont ever feel like you have to share every part of your life with him. That is control. It has nothing to do with trust, it has to do with his insecurities, and lack of trust in himself based on his past and actions that are questionable. 7. Does he seem to dislike all of your friends and the people they are in relationships with? A controlling guy will usually hate on everyone else in your life because he wants to be your number one, all the time. He will make comments about your girlfriends spouses looking at you the wrong way, or start accusing you of being with them, because of the way you look at one another. He will become Jealous of your friends and manipulate you to the point you either lose your friends or quit associating with them Just to keep the peace. They will get to the point they become so controlling and hate all of your friends so much that he slowly convinces you to stop talking to every single one of them. Thats not okay. In a relationship, you should both be able to have your own friends. Most likely he has no true friends himself, because he has no sense of handling anything he cannot be the controlling person in. 8. Do you often give into sex and your partners sexual demands Just to keep peace? even if you dont want to? Most women do. That is because it is easier to give in to the demand than deal later with the questions and accusations of seeing or being with someone else. It is a manipulative tool used by controlling and abusive spouses. Although sometimes you may want intimacy, but a controlling person can only be intimate enough and please you enough to meet their need. That is why you find yourself left behind in the enjoyment process of intimacy, because it is all about when they will get their Jollies, even when they make false attempts to please you on occasion. 9. Does he always want to be with your 2417? Away, isnt it so sweet when your husband wants to hang out every day and text every minute when youre not together? Jim, sort of, I guess? Theres a fine line between this being cute and this being controlling. In the beginning of the marriage, its cute. When things get more serious, its not always as cute. If a guy insists on being with you or talking to you 2417, being able to talk to you when apart and repeatedly calling until you answer, and stating it is because they were concerned for your well being, it is bullwhip. It means he wants to always know what youre doing, and in several states is considered stalking. At that point, you need to be like, chill or I am out of this marriage Everyone needs a little 10. Can your partner laugh at his own mistakes, or even admit his own weaknesses and shortcomings R is he too busy focused on why you make his life miserable? Most controlling and abusive husbands cannot acknowledge their weaknesses because that requires they recognize they are the root of the marital problem. 11. Does he make comments and basically tell you what you can wear or do? Your husband should never tell you what you can and cannot do. A marriage license is not a license of ownership. He shouldnt be saying, you cant wear that or you cant go there. You are an individual, you are not property to be owned or bossed around. If you can answer yes to at least four of the above, youre in a controlling, unhealthy abusive relationship. Sometimes it takes decades to comprehend, but you need to have them get help, or get out, before it destroys your identity and who you are. It will become like Stockholm syndrome, you will begin to think this is the norm, and lose any sense of individuality. Continually having someone pointing out your alts, the faults of your family members or others and accusing you of things that are false about you, and you are Jumping through hoop after hoop trying to fix yourself to accommodate the relationship is a futile and wasted effort. They are never going to change. You will never be what he wants you to be, even if you do manage to make things right?down the road there will be contradictions?and all the things youve made right will be wrong. There are serious emotional issues with your partner that stem so far back into his life, and the only way that he is able o validate his life is through the total control and belittling of you through emotional games. You ask yourself, Is this love? No. But it certainly presents itself as love initially Until the internal monster emerges. As tough as it may be, if you value you and your own sanity, stop. The only person you can fix in this relationship is you. Here are a few good resources in recognizing abusive relationships that explain abuse does not necessarily involve physical abuse, and how widespread this type of abuse is in America, and how rampant it is among spouses of military members as ell. Not all emotional abuse involves shouting or criticism. More common forms are disengaging the distracted or preoccupied spouse or stonewalling the spouse who refuses to accept anyone elses perspective.

Apollo 13
Apollo 13 Apollo 13 Apollo 13 is a film of year 1995 based on the ill fated Apollo13 lunar mission. The film is based on the book the lost moon by Jim Lovell and Jeffrey Kluger. The film was directed by Ron Howard. The film was a huge success as it was different from the common films released in those days and it was based on a true event during the space race. Story On July 20, 1969, astronaut Jim Lovell is at his home celebrating the Apollo 11 moon landing party. He tells his wife Marilyn that he wish if he could ever land on the moon after watching Neil Armstrongââ¬â¢s historic first step steps on the moon. Lovell was expecting that he will fly Apollo 14 but after some time he is given a VIP tour of Apollo 13ââ¬â¢s massive Saturn v rocket is ready to be launched. Then Lovell is informed that he and his crew has been selected as prime crew of Apollo 13. after hearing the news, Lovell tells his family about his launch. Her wife was little tensed because it was not a journey on earth it was towards moon. Before launch Lovell is informed that Ken Mattingly is not coming on the mission with him, Lovell tries best to get him on the flight but he is unsuccessful in doing so. Ken is replaced by pilot Jack Swigert. Next day they are ready for the launch and finally they move on. After the launch the middle engine of Saturn v cuts off prematurely because of over heat but they enter into orbit without problem, after performing the burn which will send Apollo 13 to the moon, Swigert changes the Apollo command module odyssey to dock with the lunar module Aquarius. After three days of the mission, Swigert is asked to stir the cryogenic oxygen tanks, leading to explosion in service module. The crew got to know that there is problem with oxygen tank and they think to cancel their landing on the moon and shut down the odyssey and on up the Aquarius for saving their life. John Aaron on earth who is a flight controller specifically trained to deal with the electrical and commu nication system recruits the crew to restart odyssey but they shut down the odyssey and powers up Aquarius and are near moon, they see the moon near to them and Lovell gets depressed by this. As the crew has powered up the Aquarius, there is a problem again, to conserve power they have to shut down the Aquarius and stay in freezing cold. The environment gets scary in the crew and Swigert blame mission control centre for not letting them to find out the technical problem in the craft, but Haise blames the Swigert and calls him inexperienced. Argument arises between both but it is soon cleared by Lovell. Aquarius is meant for two people only but it has to mange the carbon dioxide thrown by three men. An engineering team assembles at radio station Houston and makes a crude method of removing poisonous gas and air cleaners to be used in
